A Care Package Made for You: Meet the New Unthinkable Resource Hub
Trusted tools for navigating the big knowns and unknowns of our warming planet
For the last 8 years, I’ve been researching and writing about what it means to stay present and build courage in the face of so much human-caused ecological and social upheaval. Unthinkable isn’t just the name of this newsletter and my nonprofit — it’s one of the few descriptors that can get close to encapsulating what it feels like to try and grasp the complexity, foolishness, and danger of what’s happening to our planetary life support systems.
Climate distress is real. It’s not unhealthy or abnormal, it’s a signal. It shows you care deeply and understand what’s at stake. And when we learn how to work with it, it can become a powerful source of clarity, purpose, and connection that can fuel more empowered action, deeper meaning in life, or both.
After months of dreaming and building, we’re so excited to share this with you!
Today, we’re launching our brand new Resource Hub: a curated, ever-evolving platform designed to connect you with tools, guides, courses, workshops, peer support groups, contemplative practices, climate-aware mental health provider directories and more to support you from wherever you stand. When we surveyed our readers a couple of years ago about what they wanted to see more of from this newsletter, a catalog of vetted climate distress resources was at the top of the findings. So we expanded that idea into an interactive, personalized Resource Hub!
With the Resource Hub, our goal isn’t only to help people navigate climate traumas more effectively after disaster hits their town, or to help individuals cope with difficult emotions that stem from climate and ecological breakdown. It’s also to help foster our collective ability to stay soft in a hardening world, to build collective resilience, and to take action wisely without burning out or going numb from the onslaught of it all.
It’s tailored to your needs. Here’s how it works:
Take a very short quiz, and we’ll send you a personalized care package of trusted, evidence-informed resources that match your lived experience, needs, or desires.
Whether you’re freshly harmed by an extreme weather event, grieving, angry, existentially anxious, or eager to help someone else who isn’t coping well with the human side of our climate and ecological challenges, there’s something here for you.
This free platform was made to help you:
Understand and work with your climate emotions
Find tools for grounding, action, and connection
Know where to turn for support when things get disorienting
Tailored resources in the hub can be found for:
Disaster Survivors and First Responders
Climate and Environmental Professionals
Youth
Parents (and those on the fence about becoming parents)
Educators
Mental Health Providers
And many more relevant groups
Most importantly, you can submit relevant resources to the hub that aren’t yet included. Our team will vet them and if they pass a quality test, they’ll help us help more people by growing the hub over time.
The Resource Hub is now live. Come see what we made for you. And please let us know what you think!
