"Success becomes measured in actions that enhance your own emotional well-being and altruism that one day might make the world a brighter place, even if you will not be a celebrant at the victory party."

I thought this was so profound and such a necessary reminder of how much of our work in this field will go beyond our lifetimes. It also reminds me of the many people who have worked so hard on multigenerational projects and not been able to see the final results of their labor, and this in no way diminishes their contribution because today would not be possible without them. Thank you for putting this sentiment into words so eloquently.

"Survival is a community event" --what a great statement! Next time I identify 'survival mode' and its understandable operatives, I'll remind ourselves that survival is a community event to point our attention to those relationships. In my own life, efforts toward finding and growing community are paramount. But the dominant culture centers the individual in ways that cut off. Big mistake, and hence much of the reason for survival mode.

Thank you also for naming what self-care means to you, Trevor. It resonates with me and many I'm sure, and is a great reminder to make space in the responsibility pile for myself.

Lastly, we need more writing regarding living with chronic illness to surface the words than can help connect to experience. Thank you!
